About Our Vet Practice

McKenzie Vets was established as a mixed practice by Alex McKenzie in 1955 and has been offering veterinary services to the local community ever since. Alex worked hard to create a loyal client base and excellent reputation, both values we continue to hold dear and develop today.

In 2019, the clinic became a dedicated "small animal" vet practice allowing us to significantly increase the level of care we give our patients. We now have a sterile theatre with modern anaesthesia and surgery equipment, multiparameter monitoring, digital x-rays, ultrasound, comprehensive in-house laboratory, air conditioning to keep pets (and clients) comfortable and the ability to offer laser and acupuncture treatments. However, our greatest strength will always be our fantastic, dedicated team of knowledgeable and compassionate vets, nurses and receptionists who care for your pet as one of their own. 

McKenzie Vets significantly invests in all of our clinical team to continue their learning and development, ensuring your pet receives the most up-to-date care possible. Staff regularly attend continued professional development seminars and courses and participate in weekly clinical discussions and regular in-house training.

Over the years, the purpose-built practice has been extended, new equipment has been invested in and progression in veterinary medicine as meant ever more treatments are available for pets, but the original values of always doing our best to provide professional care with compassion have not changed.

McKenzie Vets is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and we are proud to have achieved the status of General Practice. We are also a Sliver Award Cat Friendly Practice and all our clinical staff have received Fear Free training.
